She's thwarted by rival Lydia Quigley (Lesley Manville), a snob determined to put Wells out of business. The story finds brothel owner Margaret Wells (Samantha Morton) plotting to move up in the world, taking her girls (including her own daughter) to a nicer house on a nicer street.
